Free concerts every year on the summer solstice.

Thanks to the more than 100 musicians–that’s uke players, singers, rockers, students, teachers, hand drummers, and many returning performers–who came out on the solstice to help us make our fifth event a memorable one. And thanks to everyone who came to listen. Share your photos or videos of the event @makemusicportland on Instagram and with #makemusicday and #makemusicptd.

Make Music Portland was Wednesday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Join us for 80+ free concerts happening all around Portland, Maine.

Make Music Portland is a day-long, totally free musical event, aimed at bringing local performers into the spotlight. Along with hundreds of cities around the world, every year on June 21 we ring in the longest day of the year with music and artistry. Join us as we fill local parks, restaurants, backyards, and public and private spaces with hundreds of performances, ranging in style and genre.

This is a free event. There are no costs to attend any performance, or to come join us making music. In addition, we organize free community events (think jam sessions, musical lessons, and the like) that happen throughout the day on June 21.

A branch of the international Fête de la Musique, Make Music Portland is organized by a Maine-based non-profit, with the generous help of dedicated local volunteers. We are always looking for new ideas, new volunteers, and fresh input. Shoot us an email if you’re curious.

Registration to be included on the 2017 schedule is closed. To build our schedule and connect performers with places to play, we use matchmaking software provided by One Solstice. It may still be possible to get you on our 2017 schedule. If you are an artist or performer who wants to get on the schedule, please email us.

If you would like to reach us for any other reason (hosting a performance, volunteering, being part of our board of directors, or for any reason) please send us an email.
